What's the point?
Why do you only go to school for one and a half hours on the last day? Why even have school at all if that's all it's going to be?

The Hula ain't got nothing on this...
The 3rd grade had a dance festival today. I remember doing dance festivals as a kid. We all thought the hula was a somewhat embarrassing dance to do and longed to be able to do the parachute dance, which was the coolest.
Aaron's class did a dance to Aretha Franklin's Chain of Fools.
It was pretty hilarious.
And there is Lily sitting to watch. A storm was blowing in, and before all the classes had danced, we ended up leaving because of the rain.

Video Clip Friday--It's Hot in Topeka
One show I really enjoy watching with the kids is Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends on Cartoon Network. It's funny on so many levels. Also, it has a cool theme song, which carries over to great music in the show. (Also it's won Emmy Awards so don't think I'm totally crazy for liking it.)
It's about a boy Mac and his imaginary friend, Bloo. Lily has a penchant for picking up strange phrases from this show and repeating them over and over. Such as "It's hot in Topeka." In this clip, the rest of the friends left Bloo behind so he wouldn't ruin their trip to the beach. Bloo is bored, waiting for Mac to come visit.
I searched, but I couldn't find a clip with "I've got the crystal" in it. Sorry.
We've got the first season on DVD if anyone would like to borrow it.

Dry Creek Park
Last weekend we went to a park in Lehi called Dry Creek Park. It's a very wild and overgrown park with a creek running through the middle of it and a frisbee golf course. We had a nice picnic with some old friends we hadn't seen in years. It was a hot day, but nicely shaded. The kids loved playing by the creek. It was running pretty high and swift from spring run off, so we had to keep a pretty close eye on them--especially because there were some bridges that crossed it that didn't have guard rails. We were pretty hot after walking around for awhile, but we all had a good time.
It's amazing!!

Bed?
Lily didn't want to stay in bed tonight. I tucked her in three times!! I heard her come out of her room again, but she wasn't trying to come downstairs, and I was sick of fighting, so I decided to wait it out. I figured she would fall asleep in the hall, which she has done before. I went up to check on her and she was asleep like this on the stairs! Glad she didn't roll over.
Piano Recital
Aaron had a piano recital last weekend.
(He didn't want me to take his picture--that's why he looks so goofy in the first image.)
He always acts a little nervous but always does a great job.
He's getting pretty good!

Go figure
Lily hates to wear dresses for some reason. Like wailing and gnashing of teeth and ripping them off hate them. Yet Mike put a nightgown on her last night with no problems. I don't get it. Maybe we'll just have to start telling her that her sundresses are actually pajamas.

Music Monday
So last weekend Mike and I were talking with Grant and Teri about albums you can't live without. Some on my list are Everything to Everyone by Barenaked Ladies, So-lo--Danny Elfman, Sgt Peppers--the Beatles, and Days of Future Past--Moody Blues.
What are your favorites?

Video Clip Friday--Lost
Here's my favorite scene from last nights episode of Lost.
Potty training woes.
I think I'm going to give up on the potty traing for like a month. Lily still fights about it. I think she could do it, if she wanted to. She can hold the pee in. Bribing m&m's worked for awhile, but now it's like she'll only pee if she feels like having some candy. We got her a Wii game and told her she could only play it if she wears underwear, but she still won't.
But she also hates getting her diaper changed. It's a lose-lose situation here.
Stubborn little girl.

Music Monday
I am loving Ludo.
No, no, not THAT Ludo.
(Though I do love him too).
I'm talking about the band Ludo. Who named their band after the above Ludo, which is just cool. Their album is called You're Awful, I Love You. Incidentally, there is a cute drawing of Ludo on the cover art.
I heard the end of the single Love Me Dead on the radio, liked what I heard, and came home to investigate further. How can a song be so dark, yet so catchy all at the same time? (Warning, if you click on the song link, it's likely you'll have the song stuck in your head for hours, if not days.)
I haven't been really excited about a new band in awhile, so I wanted to share.
PS. Happy Cinco De Mayo

Fun things kids say, part 2
We were out shopping and the topic of port-a-potties came up. Don't ask me how, these things happen when you live with an 8 year old boy. Anyway, Aaron said, "Lily has her own port-a-potty--her diaper!"

Video Clip Friday
My sister, cousins, and I all had schoolgirl crushes on Richard Dean Anderson (or RDA as we liked to call him). So here's a tribute to Macgyver.
Also, there is a ringtone of the opening theme here.

Allergy season
Seems like Lily is joining us in our lovely seasonal allergies. Her poor eyes are all puffy and boogery. At least the Claratin seems to help.
Seems like allergies didn't hit Aaron til he was around 5, so I was hoping it would be the same for Lil.

Snow in May
I'm about ready to pack up and move to Arizona after this winter. Sheesh. Enough with the snow already. Yeah, I'm talking to you Mother Nature.
